Do we both have to be there to employ for our marriage li On July 10th, 2004, New Jersey passed its Domestic Partnership Execute . On February 19th, 2007, New Jersey enacted its Civil Union Law. On June 26th, 2013, the United States Supreme Court issued a decision, United States v. Windsor, holding that the federal government could not deny benefits to same-sex couples legally married in a declare that recognized same-sex marriages. This did not impact the right of states to decide independently to offer same-sex marriage, and it had not yet become legal in Modern Jersey. However, same-sex marriage became legal in New Jersey before the right to same-sex marriage was established on a national level. In the case of Garden State Equality v. Dow, a gay-rights lobbying group and several lgbtq+ couples brought an operation against New Jersey articulate officials for unconstitutionally depriving them the right to marry. They won this argument before a Fresh Jersey trial court, and the Court ordered articulate officials in New Jersey to begin issuing lgbtq+ marriage licenses. The Express immediately sought to postpone the effective date of the trial Court’s conclusion, but that request was denied. On October 18th, 2013, in its TRENTON – Governor Murphy today signed into law S3416, which codifies marriage equality in Brand-new Jersey law by providing that all laws concerning marriage and civil union are to be read with gender neutral intent. Marriage equality currently exists in New Jersey based on state and federal Court decisions. This new statute demonstrates the Governor and Legislature’s commitment to protecting marriage equality by codifying it into New Jersey law. “Despite the progress we own made as a territory, there is still much work to be done to protect the Queer community from intolerance and injustice.
