Was Jeff Gordon Gay? When a Fake Report Took NASCAR World By Storm
The NASCAR fandom is not exactly known to be the most liberal in sports. The Southern roots of the racing discipline ensure that strict traditions and values are upheld no matter the amount.
Although this approach is molding into a identity more accommodating with second, it is just not there yet. This is why a 2014 rumor about Jeff Gordon organism gay shook the very roots of stock automobile racing.
A report published by the fake news website Empire Sports said that Gordon had confirmed that he was in a homosexual relationship with Stephen Rhodes, the first openly gay driver in NASCAR.
Over 1.5 million fans read and over 1,400 commented on the parody article, believing that the news was true. Needless to say, they were completely outraged.
However, the piece contained many signs to suggest that the scribe was playing a prank on his readers. It reads in one place, “The new couple has sparked a firestorm in the southern states where the rednecks tend to live.”
The website itself admitted that it reports only satirical news and that readers shouldn’t be taking it seriously. The writer too said that he is a vast troll

Daytona Beach, Fla. - He should be the most popular driver. He sould be the most beloved figure. He sould be the revered hero instead of organism the reviled outcast. Jeff Gordon, not Dale Earnhardt Jr., should be all these things to NASCAR fans.
Lets face it: When it comes to racing cars; Dale Jr. is to Jeff Gordon what Tracy McGrady is to Michael Jordan. Maybe some day Junior should be mentioned in the same sentence with Gordon, but not now. Definetly not now.
Remember this, NASCAR fans: Gordon rhymes with Jordan.
The reason I bring this up is because it seemed as if every fan at the Daytona International Speedway on Saturday Evening was rooting for Earnhardt Jr. when they should have been rooting for Air Gordon.
Gordon who won his second consecutive race Saturday night in the Pepsi 400, is still the greatest driver in the sport. He is the racer all the other drivers stare up to. He has perhaps meant mor to NASCAR than any other driver, including Dale Earnhardt Sr.
