Tucked between Virginia and Maryland like a drag queen’s package, Washington, D.C. is teeming with history, politics, and, to a lesser degree, homosexuals. Just because the scene is fairly conservative compared to some more progressive cities, D.C. still has some tricks up its Brooks Brothers sleeve. If you love your gays less counterculture, and with governmental access, D.C. might just be the place for you.
The only city without a state contains many of the country’s treasures. From the museums to the art galleries to the iconic monuments, D.C. pays homage to the grandeur of the American story. There is much to see, and many ways to see it. Common transportation is abundant here, but for those who want to drive, create sure to understand the layout.

Japer proudly serves and advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community and allies as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Queer woman, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning Affairs, in the Mayor Muriel E. Bowser administration. With a background as a former elected official and accomplished widespread affairs professional, Japer leads a dedicated team to serve the nation’s largest LGBTQIA+ community, per capita and over 300 LGBTQIA+ programs and organizations.
Since Japer's appointment, the office has become the largest LGBTQIA+ community affairs agency in the nation–tripling its budget, doubling its staff, and serving over 25,000 residents annually through the grants program. MOLGBTQA is also the largest local LGBTQIA+ dedicated funding organization in the DC region, administering more than $1,000,000 annually.
