Formby pensioner beaten unconscious by gay lover he met on dating website
A Formby pensioner was lost to the point of unconsciousness by a same-sex attracted lover he met on an online dating website.
The year-old victim was dragged to the floor, punched, tied up with a telephone cord and choked to unconsciousness by Frank Shannon, 30, after they had sex at his home in Formby.
Liverpool Crown Court heard how the pensioner came spherical to find Shannon, of Ashwood Close, Kirkby, loading his car with his belongings and then demanding the keys.
Judge David Aubrey, QC, warned Shannon that he could face an extended jail sentence for what was termed “an explosion of inexplicable violence”.
The court heard that the victim frequently used online dating sites to meet men and began to exchange messages with Shannon on the website Vivastreet.
He invited Shannon to stay over at his home in Formby in April and picked him up from a McDonalds in Kirkby.
Chris Hopkins, prosecuting, said: “This was a disturbing, bizarre incident where there’s an element of inexplicable behaviour on the part of the defendant on what ought to have been a quite normal and pleasant evening.”

B&M car park's hidden door that once led to Southport's first gay club
A doorway hidden within a B&M car park once led to Southport's first gay club.
Top Floor Gays, known to locals as TFGs, provided a safe space for LGBT+ people to express themselves freely away from avoid of discrimination.
It was opened in the s, but is no longer operating.
Southport nightlife connoisseur Maureen came up with the idea of opening the club.

She wanted to create a space exclusively for the LGBT+ of Southport to come together and celebrate freely.
At the time, Maureen was the manager of Champers, a long-established nightclub on Coronation Walk in Southport.
The land floor of Champers hosted cabaret events, the first floor hosted a nightly disco and the foremost floor served as a function room for birthdays, weddings and parties.
On a quest to fill the often-empty function room, Maureen came up with a plan, which was backed by Champers.
While Southport struggled to get its LGBT+ nightlife scene up and running, gay clubs on Liverpool's Stanley Street and Manchester's Canal Street had already start
